The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has announced the extension of its property tax amnesty scheme 'SUNIYO' until February 28, 2026. This initiative aims to assist property owners across Delhi in settling their long-standing tax dues without incurring penalties or interest, maintaining the late fee at 5 percent.
Under the Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO), taxpayers can avail a complete waiver on property tax, interest, and penalties for all years before 2020-21, provided they pay the principal tax for the 2025-26 fiscal year and the preceding five years. Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh emphasized the scheme's efficacy, urging citizens to regularize their tax records while the opportunity remains available.
To date, 1,78,923 taxpayers have opted for the scheme, contributing Rs 1,032.91 crore to property tax collections as of February 1. This reflects a remarkable increase in revenue and taxpayer numbers compared to the previous year. The amnesty scheme has notably influenced Delhi's property tax revenue, underscoring its success and widespread taxpayer participation.
