Mamata Takes On EC Over Controversial Electoral Roll Revision

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has filed a plea in the Supreme Court challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. Scheduled for a crucial hearing on Wednesday, the apex court will deliberate on the allegations of procedural flaws in the ongoing electoral revision.

A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, joined by Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, will hear multiple petitions from Banerjee, Mostari Banu, and TMC MPs Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen. Banerjee, a law graduate, is expected to present her submissions in person.

Previously, the Supreme Court had mandated transparency in the SIR process, instructing the Election Commission to publish lists of 'logical discrepancies'. Banerjee's petition argues that the current procedure could lead to mass disenfranchisement, criticizing the Election Commission for its lack of formal guidelines and reliance on informal instructions.
