The Punjab and Haryana High Court has escalated the ongoing controversy over a leaked audio clip by ordering its forensic examination. The clip allegedly features a conversation between the Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police and other local police officers, suggesting interference in the December 14 elections.
The court's ruling comes in response to petitions filed by Akali leader Daljit Singh Cheema and Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa. The petitioners argued for an independent probe after Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal shared the clip on social media, accusing the ruling AAP of using state machinery to thwart opposition candidates.
In a critical move, the bench instructed that the audio clip be sent to an agency not under state control to ensure a fair examination. This decision underscores the complexity of verifying modern records, as earlier claims surfaced that the clip could be AI-generated. The SAD has voiced its support for the court's directive and continues to seek accountability.
