Turkey Seeks to Modernize EU Customs Union Amid Renewed Talks

During a forthcoming visit from the EU's enlargement commissioner, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will advocate for the prompt resumption of talks on updating the EU-Turkey customs union, a Turkish Foreign Ministry source revealed on Thursday.

Turkey's EU accession has been stalled for years due to issues like human rights concerns, but recent months have signaled increased engagement and cooperation. The 1995 customs union is currently limited, and Turkey is calling for its modernization.

Additionally, Minister Fidan will address reshaping migration cooperation based on fair burden sharing. Turkey also expects effective implementation of the EU's recent decision to ease visa regulations for Turkish citizens.
