Plot to Assassinate Trump Uncovered: Conviction of Pakistani Man

A Pakistani man, Asif Merchant, was convicted on Friday for plotting to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump and other prominent politicians, allegedly under Iran's directives, according to the Department of Justice.

The DOJ revealed that Merchant aimed to recruit individuals within the U.S. to target Trump, Joe Biden, and Nikki Haley in a 2024 plot, motivated by the U.S.'s 2020 assassination of Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani.

Merchant disclosed his reluctant participation, claiming it was to safeguard his family in Tehran. His plot was foiled when a contacted accomplice became a covert informant. Major attacks from the U.S. and Israel have since resulted in numerous casualties, escalating tensions in the region.
