Tensions Rise as West Bengal Gears Up for Critical Polls

In response to previous post-poll violence and recent judicial incidents, the Election Commission maintains a strong security presence in West Bengal for upcoming assembly elections. Deploying 500 companies of central forces and 200 CAPFs for EVM protection, authorities aim to ensure a smooth electoral process amid heightened tensions.

With upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, the Election Commission is bolstering security by maintaining the deployment of 500 central force companies, even after vote counting concludes on May 4. The move addresses past incidents of violence following elections.

Additionally, 200 companies of Central Armed Police Forces are tasked with securing electronic voting machines and counting locations. These forces will remain until the counting process concludes.

The poll authority has urged a thorough inquiry into the attack on judicial officers in Malda, amid criticism from the Supreme Court regarding state inaction, prompting an NIA investigation to ensure election integrity.
