Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of maintaining high strategic clarity and political security between China and Vietnam during a meeting with Vietnamese President To Lam on Wednesday. In a statement reported by Xinhua, President Xi highlighted the need for strong strategic determination and alignment of development strategies.
This meeting marks To Lam's first overseas visit since assuming the presidency last week, signaling a strengthening relationship between the two communist nations. Historically, the countries have alternated between conflict and cooperation, but recent years have seen increased collaboration in sectors like railways and technology, despite ongoing disputes over maritime boundaries in the South China Sea.
Further cooperation is anticipated as China plans to bolster ties with Vietnam in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and internet-related industries. President Xi assured that Vietnam's products are welcome in the Chinese market, emphasizing the significance of trade and investment relations, which have made China Vietnam's largest trading partner within ASEAN.
