During his inaugural visit to Ukhrul district as the Chief Minister, Y Khemchand Singh emphasized the urgent need for dialogue to address ongoing ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities. In a shared moment of emotion in Thawai Kuki village, he reaffirmed his dedication to restoring peace for the state's citizens.
Manipur has faced significant unrest since May 2023, following a 'Tribal Solidarity March' against the Meitei community's ST status demand, resulting in the loss of at least 260 lives and leaving many homeless. Singh urged for peace by emphasizing the impact of violence on children and future generations.
Ensuring sustainable development, the Chief Minister committed to resolving pressing local issues, including the construction of essential infrastructure like the Sharkaphung bridge and addressing water scarcity concerns. His visit included stops at Shangkai, Shokvao, and Ramva villages, where he assured locals of proactive governmental intervention.
