A Delhi court has put a temporary hold on the filing of an FIR against Abhijit Iyer Mitra, a political commentator accused of making abusive remarks towards nine women journalists from Newslaundry.
Additional Sessions Judge Purushottam Pathak was presiding over a plea from Mitra seeking a stay on an earlier magistrate order calling for the FIR. The court has paused the filing until May 28, the date set for the next hearing.
The accusations arise from tweets allegedly posted by Mitra against Manisha Pande, Newslaundry's editorial director, along with eight other women journalists. Screenshots of the tweets, which contain sexually abusive remarks, have been presented as evidence. The court sees the need for police to investigate further, especially focusing on the digital devices used to post the tweets.
