Iran Demands Fair Deal as Project Freedom Stalls
Iran insists on a fair peace deal after U.S. President Trump pauses the naval mission 'Project Freedom'. Despite efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, tensions persist with Iranian strikes on ships. Negotiations continue, with both nations seeking a comprehensive resolution amid ongoing regional conflict.
Iran declared on Wednesday that it would only agree to a peace agreement if it is 'fair', following U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to pause the naval mission known as 'Project Freedom'. This mission aimed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a three-day endeavor that has disrupted the war's month-old ceasefire.
Despite Trump's announcement on Sunday, intended to restart traffic through the vital waterway, the mission did not accomplish its goals and instead triggered heightened Iranian attacks on shipping vessels and nearby targets. A French company reported an attack on one of its container ships in the strait, prompting evacuation of injured crew members.
In China, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi did not address Trump's latest comments but emphasized the importance of diplomacy in averting further conflict. Iran maintains control over the strait, closed to all but its shipping since the war's onset in February, amidst escalating tensions and stalled negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.
