Tragedy Strikes: Fatal Fire at Sri Lankan Elderly Home

A fire at an elderly home in Anguruwatota, Sri Lanka, has claimed the lives of a dozen residents, police reported Thursday. Eight individuals have been hospitalized after the tragic event.

The fire was extinguished, and police have taken the establishment's director into custody for questioning. Located 55 kilometers from Colombo, the tragedy has sparked intense scrutiny.

Police spokesperson Frederick Wootler confirmed that 51 people were rescued and are under the care of the military and local officials. Meanwhile, two police teams have been assigned to delve deeper into the incident’s causes.
