Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba has described the newly opened Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Cost Centre in Marble Hall as a practical example of government's commitment to improving public services and strengthening development across the province.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony on Monday, Ramathuba said infrastructure investment remains one of the most important tools available to the government for stimulating economic activity, attracting investment, creating employment opportunities and supporting long-term growth. The modern facility, located in the Sekhukhune District, is expected to improve the operations of the Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure by providing a better environment for planning, coordination and project management.

According to the Premier, strong infrastructure is not only about buildings and roads but also about creating the conditions needed for effective service delivery and sustainable development.

Modern Facility Expected to Improve Productivity

Ramathuba said the quality of a workplace directly influences the performance of employees and the services they provide to communities. She noted that public servants are more productive when they work in safe, functional and well-maintained environments. The new centre offers upgraded office space, improved facilities and a professional setting designed to support officials in carrying out their responsibilities more efficiently.

Addressing employees who will work from the building, the Premier encouraged them to view the facility as a centre of excellence and ensure that the quality of services delivered reflects the quality of the infrastructure provided. She also called on staff members to take responsibility for preserving the building and maintaining high standards within the workplace. According to Ramathuba, clean and well-managed public facilities demonstrate respect for public resources and promote a culture of professionalism.

Community Urged to Protect Public Investment

The Premier reminded residents that the facility was built using public funds and belongs to the people of Ephraim Mogale Municipality and the wider Sekhukhune District. She stressed that protecting public infrastructure should be a shared responsibility involving government, community members and local stakeholders.

Ramathuba appealed to traditional leaders, faith-based organisations and residents to help safeguard the building from vandalism, theft and criminal activity. She warned that damage to public infrastructure ultimately harms communities that rely on government services. She said the opening of the Marble Hall Cost Centre is part of a broader commitment to expand infrastructure investment throughout Limpopo. Roads, public buildings, schools, clinics and other facilities remain critical for connecting communities with opportunities and improving quality of life.

The Premier emphasized that infrastructure should be viewed as an investment rather than an expense because it creates lasting benefits for future generations. She also praised the Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure for its role in delivering projects that support government programmes across the province. The department, she said, remains central to the construction, maintenance and management of public assets that enable essential services to reach communities.
