All 24 Indian crew members aboard the Palau-flagged tanker MT Marivex have been safely rescued after the vessel was reportedly targeted in a missile attack while anchored off the coast of Oman. The Indian Coast Guard's Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai received information about the incident at approximately 2:20 pm on 8 June 2026. The tanker was anchored near Masirah Island, Oman, when the attack occurred. Following the alert, MRCC Mumbai immediately established communication with the Oman Maritime Search and Rescue Centre (OMSC) and began coordinating with relevant maritime authorities to monitor developments and ensure the safety of the crew.

Oman Navy Helicopters Conduct Successful Rescue Mission

As rescue efforts were launched, authorities from both countries maintained close coordination throughout the operation. At around 5:00 pm, the Oman Maritime Search and Rescue Centre confirmed that all 24 Indian nationals on board had been successfully evacuated by helicopters operated by the Oman Navy.

According to official information, all rescued crew members are safe and no fatalities or injuries have been reported.

The vessel remains anchored off Masirah, while authorities continue to assess the situation and monitor developments surrounding the incident.

The swift evacuation helped prevent potential loss of life and ensured that the crew was moved to safety within a few hours of the attack being reported.

International Cooperation Plays Key Role in Emergency Response

The successful operation has been highlighted as an example of effective international maritime cooperation and coordinated emergency response mechanisms in the region.

The incident brought together multiple maritime agencies, with the Indian Coast Guard and Omani authorities working closely to share information and coordinate rescue efforts. Such cooperation is considered critical in responding to emergencies involving commercial vessels operating in international waters.

The rescue also reflects the Indian Coast Guard's continued role in safeguarding Indian seafarers working aboard merchant vessels around the world. With thousands of Indian nationals employed in the global shipping industry, maritime coordination centres regularly work with international partners to respond to distress situations and ensure the welfare of crew members.

Officials noted that the prompt communication between maritime rescue agencies and the rapid deployment of rescue assets by the Oman Navy were instrumental in ensuring a successful outcome.

As investigations into the missile attack continue, the focus remains on the safety and well-being of the rescued crew members, all of whom have been confirmed safe following the operation.
