Meghalaya Commences Rs 488 Crore Road Projects to Boost Connectivity in Jaintia Hills

Conrad Sangma initiated road projects worth Rs 488 crore in Jaintia Hills to improve connectivity. The infrastructure aims to enhance economic activities, tourism, and access to essential services, with work starting soon. Scientific mining practices and sustainable development were also emphasized.

Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, inaugurated the groundwork for substantial road projects valued at nearly Rs 488 crore in the Jaintia Hills region. These projects are set to enhance connectivity and support economic growth in both the East and West Jaintia Hills areas.

The comprehensive plan includes the upgrade of roads spanning over 108 kilometers across several villages. Significantly, a project to upgrade a major road connecting various towns, funded by the World Bank, is expected to cost Rs 355 crore. Another key initiative focuses on strengthening an essential route under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund.

Furthermore, these projects aim to bolster access to tourism, healthcare, and education facilities. Sangma highlighted the state's commitment to balanced development and noted ongoing government efforts to promote scientific mining practices and lift local coal mining restrictions.

The Chief Minister also announced infrastructure enhancements such as an indoor stadium and reassured the public of sustainable and inclusive growth involving local communities in decision-making.
