Voters say India's future secure only under Modi: BJP leader

BJP general secretary Ram Madhav Monday said people have affirmed through their verdict in the Lok Sabha polls that the country's future would be secure only in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "The people of the country have decided and stated in whose hands India would be safe after this (Lok Sabha) elections. They have stated that the country's future would be secure only in the hands of Modi ji," he said.

The opposition parties are clueless now (after the polls), he claimed. The Congress has shut its shop for a month and its president (Rahul Gandhi) says that he cannot run the party, he said.

"Congress has shut shop for a month. Congress party's leadership announced 'mooh bandh' (keeping mouth shut) for a month, we will not speak and come before media. The president of that party is saying: I cannot run this party, this work cannot be done by me," the BJP leader said. He was addressing a meeting organised at Nizamabad in Telangana to thank the electorate for the victory of BJP candidate D Arvind in the Lok Sabha polls.

Arvind emerged as a giant-killer after he defeated sitting TRS MP K Kavitha, daughter of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. After suffering a humiliating defeat in Telangana assembly polls held in December last year (losing deposits in more than 100 of the total 119 seats), BJP pulled off surprising gains in Lok Sabha elections, winning four of the total 17 constituencies.

The ruling TRS, which was widely expected to win at least 13-14 seats bagged nine. Congress managed to win three. The LS poll gains served as a morale booster to the BJP which declared that it would emerge as the alternative to ruling TRS..
