Ethiopia’s PM Abiy Ahmed nominated for 2019 Nobel Peace Prize by PRIO

Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed has been nominated for the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize by the Director of Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), Henrik Urdal.
According to the information posted on the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) website, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed leads Henrik Urdal’s 2019 Nobel Peace Prize Shortlist. Followed by Reporters Without Borders, The Arctic Council, The International Land Coalition and UNHCR and High Commissioner Filippo Grandi.
“Neither the names of nominators nor of nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize may be divulged until 50 years have elapsed,” according to the Nobel Prize awarding institution, New Business Ethiopia noted.
“Such permission may not, however, be granted until at least 50 years have elapsed after the date on which the decision in question was made,” the status reads.
There are 304 candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2019 out of which 219 are individuals and 85 are organizations, according to Nobel Foundation. The current record of 376 candidates was reached in 2016. The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.
