Ghana: Shelter to victims of domestic violence to be completed soon, assures Minister Ampofo

The shelter to Ghanaian house victims of domestic violence will be completed soon, as announced by Gifty Twum Ampofo, the deputy minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection in Ghana.
According to Gifty Twum Ampofo, the government of Ghana has given a new office building including GH¢10 million to that effect. She stated that the shelter to victims of domestic violence will be completed as early as possible and made accessible to them (the victims).
She made the statement at a roundtable discussion organised by the Centre for Democratic Development-Ghana (CDD-Ghana) and The Ark Foundation to mark the World Day of Social Justice in the country's capital city, Accra. It was on the theme: "Full Implementation and Compliance of Domestic Violence Act (Act 732): Government, Parliament and Judiciary Responsibilities."
Passed in 2007, the Act was to institute criminal sanctions for perpetrators of Domestic Violence and offer remedies for victims as well as improve Ghana's compliance with its international human rights obligations.
