A project has recently been unveiled by the Veterans Administration Ghana to build military veteran centers in all 6 regions of Ghana. This project is targeted at recognizing and extolling the efforts of veterans and assist them in raising their standard of living.

Once the process of facilitation is completed, the veterans will be able to access the wellness centers, restaurants, cinemas and shops for commercial activities and shops for commercial activities. The project was launched in Ghana’s capital city Accra at the launch and fundraising campaign over breakfast on March 7.

The Veterans Administration Ghana (VGA) is working on this project in association with Forces Help Ghana (a UK-based NGO), Innova DDB Ghana (advertising company) and Genelec Infrastructure Development Services (a developer). It is also supported by the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Blue Skies, EIB Network, Starter Pack, Pokuaah’s Cooking Pot, among others.

“The reason for the fundraising was to raise the awareness that there were people who were prepared to die for the peace and freedom of the country,” the Executive Director of Veterans Administration Ghana, (Retired) Captain Ben Edmund Duah opined. “The Ghanaian veteran put his life down for the country and is prepared to go to battle irrespective of who he is defending. Once he is defending his nation, he is prepared to die for the country. So after they have done that, be prepared to sacrifice a little for his comfort in his old age,” Captain Ben Edmund Duah added, as reported by Daily Graphic.

According to him, the group wasn’t requesting much from the Ghanaians but to make veterans feel appreciated, recognised and happy with themselves. “For example, the person who jumps every day from the parachute is affected in his old age. At that point, you need the nation to show that it cares about him. But if he is left uncared for, it brings back the pain and it is very sad,” Captain Duah added.
