Amit Shah, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Home Minister, is leading by more than 2.31 lakh votes against his closest Congress rival Sonal Patel in Gujarat's Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, according to officials on Tuesday.

Shah has received 2.99 lakh votes so far, while Congress candidate Sonal Patel has secured 68,000 votes. The counting is ongoing for all 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state, having started at 8 am.

In the 2019 election, Shah won the same seat by a massive margin of over 5.57 lakh votes. The Union minister is seeking a second term, continuing a legacy set by BJP stalwarts like Lal Krishna Advani and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who also represented the Gandhinagar seat in 1996 before opting to retain the Lucknow seat in Uttar Pradesh.
