Atul Garg, the new BJP candidate for Ghaziabad's Lok Sabha seat, is making headlines with a commanding lead of over 1.14 lakh votes, according to the latest poll trends from the Election Commission on Tuesday.
With over 3.26 lakh votes, Garg is far ahead of Congress' Dolly Sharma who has secured 2.11 lakh votes, and Bahujan Samaj Party's Nand Kishor Pundir, who trails with 38,653 votes as of 1.15 pm.
Replacing former union minister and ex-Army chief V K Singh, Garg had big shoes to fill, given Singh's impressive victory margins of more than 5 lakh votes in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Garg, a sitting MLA from Ghaziabad, was announced as the BJP's candidate within hours of Singh declaring he would not contest.
