In a decisive sweep through the Gangetic plains, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has reaffirmed its position as a formidable force in West Bengal's politics, capturing 18 of the 29 seats won in the Lok Sabha polls from this region.

While the TMC fortified its hold over the western Junglemahal area, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) maintained its influence in north Bengal and the Matua belt in the south. The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC increased its seat count by seven compared to the previous Lok Sabha elections, securing 29 out of 42 seats, while the BJP saw a decline, securing only 12 seats compared to 18 in 2019.

Notably, the TMC's clean sweep in the Gangetic plains included victories in the five districts of North and South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly, reducing the BJP's presence from three seats to two. TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee achieved a remarkable victory in Diamond Harbour with a record margin of 7.10 lakh votes, the highest in recent decades.
