Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu announced on Saturday his honour at attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony.
In a statement, Muizzu's office confirmed his acceptance of the invitation for the historic event, marking Modi's third consecutive term as Prime Minister.
This visit will be Muizzu's first official trip to India since taking office on November 17 last year. Unlike his predecessors, Muizzu's initial state visits took him to Turkiye and China.
Munu Mahawar, India's High Commissioner to the Maldives, formally presented the invitation to President Muizzu during a courtesy call at the President's Office. The High Commissioner extended greetings from Prime Minister Modi and expressed Modi's anticipation of Muizzu's attendance at the ceremony.
President Muizzu expressed gratitude and eagerness to work closely with Prime Minister Modi to further strengthen the positive trajectory of Maldives-India relations, as evidenced by this visit.
However, Muizzu's office did not specify his departure date for India.
Earlier on Wednesday, Muizzu had congratulated Modi on his election victory and voiced his commitment to collaborative bilateral efforts. “Congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi and the BJP and BJP-led NDA, for the success in the 2024 Indian General Election. I look forward to advancing our shared interests for our countries' prosperity and stability,” Muizzu posted on X.
The upcoming swearing-in ceremony is expected to include top leaders from neighbouring countries under India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.
