The Biden campaign has released a new advertisement on Thursday targeting his rival, former president Donald Trump, for allegedly 'siding with Putin,' and labeled him a 'lapdog for a dictator.' The strategic release coincides with the conclusion of this week's high-profile NATO summit.
This advertisement is part of a broader USD 50 million media investment for July, building momentum for the November 5 presidential election.
The ad criticizes Trump for allowing Russia to freely act against NATO members that fail to meet defense spending benchmarks, asserting that Trump is a 'dictator's lapdog,' spouting 'America first' rhetoric.
'Donald Trump is an unstable, would-be dictator. If re-elected, he will be Putin's lapdog, risking Europe's sovereignty and possibly triggering World War III,' stated Lauren Hitt, a spokesperson for Biden's campaign, on Thursday as reported by CNN.
'Democracy and American security are at stake in November, and President Biden remains the sole candidate committed to safeguarding these values both domestically and internationally,' said the campaign.
Concerns are growing within Congressional Democrats about Biden’s prospects for reelection, especially following a poor debate performance last month. There's fear that Biden at the top of the ticket might negatively impact the party’s chances in the elections.
Although many Democrats have refrained from publicly urging Biden to withdraw, an increasing number are now vocalizing their concerns. Nevertheless, Biden has launched efforts to energize support for a second term in the White House.
Biden assured congressional Democrats in a letter on Monday that he intends to continue his reelection campaign despite the emerging concerns.
Biden will host a much-anticipated news conference on Thursday at the NATO summit's conclusion, providing another critical moment for him to demonstrate his competence in managing unscripted questioning.
