Democratic U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin has called on President Joe Biden to reconsider his re-election campaign. The appeal, made in a letter dated July 6, urges the 81-year-old incumbent to consider the opinions of fellow Democrats, while stopping short of directly asking him to drop out. Raskin wrote, "There is no shame in taking a well-deserved bow to the overflowing appreciation of the crowd."
Raskin, who led the second House of Representatives impeachment case against Donald Trump in 2021, emphasized the high stakes of the upcoming election, stating, "Everything we believe in is on the line in the next four-and-a-half months." The New York Times first reported the letter.
A growing number of Democrats have voiced concerns over Biden's candidacy following a poorly received debate against Trump on June 27. These concerns focus on Biden's ability to secure another term and effectively manage the pressures of the presidency for four more years.
