Manipur Congress Accuses BJP of Budget Neglect Amidst Flood Devastation
The opposition Congress in Manipur has criticised the BJP-led government for neglecting the state in the Union Budget, despite Manipur suffering from major floods and ethnic violence. State Congress president K Meghachandra accused the BJP of a biased approach, while the state BJP defended the budget, highlighting its focus on inclusive development and job creation.
The opposition Congress in Manipur has slammed the BJP-led central government for allegedly ignoring the state's critical needs in the Union Budget. Despite Manipur facing severe floods and ethnic violence, the budget did little to address these issues, claimed state Congress president K Meghachandra.
K Meghachandra pointed out the budget's alleged partiality, noting that while flood-hit Assam received attention, Manipur—affected by a catastrophic hailstorm and severe floods—was overlooked. He expressed deep disappointment over the absence of aid for over 60,000 displaced residents.
Conversely, Manipur BJP spokesperson M Asnikumar praised the budget, calling it a step towards holistic and inclusive development. He highlighted the proposed Rs 2 lakh crore allocation for job creation and a new employment skilling scheme, aimed at ensuring comprehensive social justice for all citizens irrespective of their background.
