More than 2.7 million Singaporeans are now eligible to verify their names on voter lists from Tuesday, ahead of a likely General Election this year, instigated by newly-elected Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

The finalized list was validated on Sunday and is open for public viewing starting Tuesday, as reported by Channel News Asia through the Elections Department (ELD).

Wong, who assumed office on May 15, directed the ELD to update the voter rolls with a completion deadline set for July 31.

The previous General Election in Singapore was conducted on July 10, 2020, with the next legally due by November 2025. Nonetheless, political analysts forecast an election occurring within this year due to early preparations and have advised eligible voters to check their registration status.

Non-participation in the last General Election results in a voter's name being suspended from the current roll. The revised list now includes 2,715,187 registered electors, up from 2,709,407 in the 2023 Presidential Election held in September.

There were 2,651,435 registered electors in the 2020 General Election. The ELD also announced the establishment of ten overseas polling stations in cities such as Beijing, Canberra, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, New York, San Francisco, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Washington DC for expatriate voters.
