Maran Criticizes Modi's Budget: A Divisive Appropriation?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing criticism from DMK leader Dayanidhi Maran, who alleges that the PM is only working for the parties supporting him, ignoring those who voted for his party. Maran's comments were made during a discussion on Budget 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha.

The Chennai Central MP highlighted that nearly Rs 4 lakh crore had been promised as subsidies to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, questioning the source of these funds and their cost. Maran urged Modi to adopt a more inclusive approach, similar to Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin's commitment to work for all constituents.

Maran accused the Union budget of failing middle-class aspirations and penalising Tamil Nadu for not supporting BJP. Amid allegations that the budget favored BJP-ruled states, TDP's Sribharat Mathukumili praised its vision, highlighting Andhra Pradesh’s economic progress under NDA until 2019, contrasting the state’s recent setbacks.
