The Quad, consisting of Australia, India, Japan, and the US, is focused on generating practical outcomes in areas such as disaster relief, maritime security, and climate initiatives.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the Quad's role in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific and a rules-based international order in a volatile world during a Quad Foreign Ministers press conference on Monday.
Jaishankar clarified that the Quad, which includes Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, is a platform that delivers practical results rather than just discussions. Key initiatives include Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, maritime security, and off-grid solar projects in the Indo-Pacific islands.
Since its formation in November 2017, the Quad has aimed to secure crucial Indo-Pacific sea routes. China has conflicting maritime claims with several regional nations in the South China Sea and the East China Sea, adding complexity to the region's dynamics.
