On Monday, JMM staged a protest against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's statement in Lok Sabha, advocating for certain regions in Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Bihar to be declared a Union Territory to curb Bangladeshi infiltration.
Dubey proposed on July 25 the creation of a Union Territory comprising districts from West Bengal, Bihar, and Santhal Parganas in Jharkhand, citing a declining tribal population due to increasing ''Bangladeshi infiltrators.'' State minister Deepak Birua accused the BJP of attempting to divide Jharkhand and stated, ''We will not allow them to divide our state.''
State BJP president Babulal Marandi distanced the party from Dubey's remarks, calling them personal opinions. Concurrently, BJP legislators demonstrated outside the assembly, accusing the Hemant Soren-led alliance of shielding Bangladeshi infiltrators and demanding the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
