Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Friday that his government will verify allegations regarding the planting of landmines by Myanmar-based militants along the Myanmar border in Kamjong district.
Calling the situation "alarming," Singh informed the state assembly that the matter would be reported to the Centre. He was responding to a calling attention motion by Naga People's Front MLA Leishiyo Keishing, who claimed that landmine explosions had already caused casualties among humans and animals.
Singh said that although previous rumors had circulated, no official spot check had been conducted. He emphasized the need to deploy a team including Assam Rifles, state police, and CID to conduct a thorough survey. The state government will inform Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. If confirmed, the mines on the Manipur side would be removed, with security measures at the border enhanced.
