Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicising the Ayodhya rape incident, claiming it to be a pre-election conspiracy. Speaking at Janeshwar Mishra Park, Yadav said, 'BJP's intention from the beginning has been to malign socialists. Their approach towards Muslims is unconstitutional.'

Referring to the gang rape of a 12-year-old girl in Ayodhya, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister defended his earlier demand for a DNA test of the accused. Yadav pointed out that the Uttar Pradesh government amended the law in 2023 to mandate DNA tests for crimes warranting over seven years of imprisonment.

'What is wrong with demanding a DNA test when the law mandates it?' Yadav questioned. He also cited incidents in Hathras and Gomti Nagar, alleging BJP's role in defaming the SP. 'Whenever the SP forms a government, we will take action against officers violating the law while acting as BJP workers,' Yadav asserted.

Meanwhile, SP MP Awadhesh Prasad described the incident as extremely shameful and demanded harsh punishment for the accused. 'The party stands with the victim, and we have formed a high-level committee to report on the case,' Prasad added. Yadav also urged the court to ensure the victim's safety and called for the best medical care for her.
