Bangladesh's ousted prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, will not make a political comeback, her son and former official adviser, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, stated on Monday. According to Joy, Hasina left the country for her safety at her family's urging.

At 76, Hasina resigned and departed for London amid mass protests against her government. Joy clarified in a BBC World Service interview that his mother had contemplated resigning since Sunday and ultimately departed under familial pressure for her safety.

Joy expressed his mother's deep disappointment, stating, "She has turned Bangladesh around. When she took over power, it was considered a failing state. Now it’s seen as one of Asia's rising tigers." The protests, escalated by discontent with the government’s quota system, resulted in deadly clashes, causing at least 300 fatalities within a fortnight.
