Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, accusing her of producing a budget that mocks the Indian populace through inaction and regressive measures.
In her address, Moitra lambasted the budget for failing to address the needs of ordinary citizens, branding it an ''elucidatory budget'' that offered no meaningful course correction. ''People wanted a course correction, but you've done the exact opposite,'' she remarked, criticizing the retention of the same Cabinet and Finance Minister responsible for the ''shoddy budget.''
Moitra further dissected the budget's impact on Indian society, citing the regressive nature of indirect taxes, the burden on the middle class, and inadequate allocations for social schemes. She flagged the budget's minimal growth in defense spending and accused the government of prioritizing political and business interests over national security and public welfare.
