A Bengaluru court has issued summons to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, asking them to personally appear on August 29. The case pertains to their involvement in a protest organized by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee in June 2022 against what they termed 'unnecessary harassment' of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by the Directorate of Enforcement in the National Herald case.

Defying restrictive orders, the Congress leaders, including Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, staged the protest that led to a case being registered at the Wilson Garden Police Station. The case alleges that the demonstration disrupted public peace and lacked the required permissions. It is worth noting that a similar case filed at the Shivajinagar Police Station was later quashed by the Karnataka High Court.

The court's decision to summon the top leadership adds another twist to the ongoing political and legal battles surrounding this high-profile case.
