Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called upon the Election Commission to rapidly move forward with the election process in the Union Territory. Speaking at a public rally in Bani, Abdullah noted that the National Conference had presented its viewpoint to the EC, aiming for early issuance of election notifications.
The National Conference vice president highlighted the obligations of the Election Commission to conduct assembly elections by the Supreme Court's deadline, provided the current situation is deemed more stable than in 1996 when elections last took place.
He also critiqued the BJP-led government's focus on Kashmir at the expense of Jammu, warning that such neglect has led to a resurgence of militancy in the region. Abdullah called for a balanced approach to ensure both regions are adequately addressed and emphasized the importance of public cooperation to restore peace.
