Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its stance on reservation policies, urging the party to introduce an ordinance against the Supreme Court's ruling on the 'creamy layer' in SC/ST reservations. Yadav also derisively referred to the BJP as the 'Badka Jhootha Party'.
"The BJP is undermining the 65 per cent reservation and 10 per cent EWS quota. We demanded these be included in Schedule 9, but BJP supporters in the court are working to negate them. We are contesting it in the Supreme Court and will continue to fight both legally and publicly. BJP is perpetuating lies and hatred," he asserted. Yadav insisted that the BJP's actions reveal it to be anti-Dalit and anti-reservation.
The Supreme Court has previously ruled by a 6:1 majority that the sub-classification of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is permissible, asserting that the adequacy of representation should be calculated based on effective rather than quantitative metrics.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that there is no provision for the creamy layer in SC/ST reservations as per the Constitution drafted by BR Ambedkar, and emphasized that the NDA government adheres to that Constitution. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet has also discussed the Supreme Court judgment on the matter.
Additionally, Yadav launched a strong attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, criticizing his administration for the rising crime rates in the state. "Every day, incidents of crime in different districts of Bihar are being reported. The government has failed completely, leading to increased murders, rapes, and violence. It is evident that CM Nitish Kumar is incapable of governing effectively," Yadav proclaimed. (ANI)
