The Jammu and Kashmir administration has undertaken a significant reshuffling of its officials, transferring 89 individuals, including deputy commissioners, just weeks after the Election Commission's directive. The administration aims to adhere to the guidelines of ensuring officials are not posted in their home districts ahead of upcoming elections.
The Election Commission is set to announce the schedule for assembly elections on Friday, with plans to hold polls in Jammu and Kashmir before the Supreme Court-mandated deadline of September 30, 2023. This move follows consistent policy efforts to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
In addition to Jammu and Kashmir, similar directives have been issued for the poll-bound states of Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jharkhand, whose legislative assembly terms conclude between November 3, 2023, and January 5, 2024. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has assured that no internal or external forces will be allowed to disrupt the elections.
