Indonesian President Joko Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, emphasized his decade-long achievements in economic development and infrastructure during his final state of the nation address. With less than a year before he leaves office, Jokowi pointed to the successful construction of 2,700 kilometers of new toll roads, 50 new ports and airports, and 1.1 million hectares of irrigation canals.
Jokowi noted the reduction of extreme poverty from 6.1% to under 1% and the implementation of the national healthcare system among other notable successes. As he prepares to step down, Jokowi acknowledged mounting criticism surrounding the weakening of the judiciary and anti-corruption body, as well as his attempts to establish a political dynasty.
He apologized for any shortcomings during his tenure and highlighted the challenges in solving national issues within a decade. With his eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, set to take the vice-presidency alongside president-elect Prabowo Subianto, the political landscape in Indonesia is poised for significant change.
