BJP's Protest Rally in Kolkata Disrupted by Authorities

The BJP claimed its workers were prevented from holding a rally in Kolkata to protest the death of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College. In a contentious turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged on Friday that its workers faced obstruction in holding a protest rally in Kolkata, aimed at highlighting the death of a woman doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week.

According to a party leader, police dismantled a stage set up by the BJP at Shyambazar crossing in north Kolkata. Numerous saffron party workers were reportedly rounded up and taken to the central lock-up in Lalbazar police headquarters.

Efforts to obtain comments from police officers were unsuccessful. Prominent BJP figures such as MLA Agnimitra Paul and Rudranil Ghosh were among those who gathered in Shyambazar for the demonstration. Additionally, protests were held at Nager Bazar, located on the northern outskirts of the city. The incident comes amid ongoing unrest following the alleged rape and murder of a woman post-graduate trainee at RG Kar Hospital on August 9, which led to vandalism at the hospital and widespread midnight protests by women against the killing.
