BJP's national spokesperson Anil Antony has called for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, citing a 'complete breakdown of law and order' and a rise in heinous crimes against women in the state.

Addressing a press conference, Antony said that West Bengal deserves freedom from anarchy and misgovernance, emphasizing the need for good governance and guaranteed safety for residents, especially women.

Antony pointed to incidents in Sandeshkhali, Chopra, and Kolkata, arguing these demonstrate the deteriorating law and order situation. He also described the recent rape and murder of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata as 'horrifying,' which has sparked silent marches and protests across India and even abroad.

Antony criticized the delayed transfer of the case to the CBI by Banerjee, alleging that this hindered the investigation and allowed crucial evidence to be tampered with or destroyed.

Welcoming the Calcutta High Court's decision for a CBI inquiry, Antony pressed for a swift and thorough investigation. He also criticized Congress and INDIA bloc leaders for their silence on the issue in non-BJP ruled states like West Bengal while being vocal in BJP-ruled states.

Meanwhile, Assam BJP Mahila Morcha held a candle-light vigil in protest against the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal.
