This criticism, strongly voiced by Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, resulted in the Centre withdrawing the latest advertisement for these appointments.

Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh wrote to the UPSC Chairman, asking to cancel the advertisement to ensure marginalized communities receive their fair representation. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized the governance, calling it pathetic, and highlighting the influence of Opposition leaders in this decision.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore deemed this a victory for the Constitution, reflecting on a strong Opposition against a weak Prime Minister. The issue, igniting since an August 17 notification by the UPSC, had become a significant political row, with allegations of the BJP snatching reservation rights for marginalized communities.
