RFK Jr. Considers Joining Forces with Trump to Unify Vote
Independent U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is contemplating ending his campaign to join Republican rival Donald Trump. His running mate, Nicole Shanahan, mentioned the strategic move aims to prevent splitting the vote, which could lead to a Democratic victory. Kennedy, previously a Democratic contender, is now an independent candidate.
Independent U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is considering ending his campaign to join forces with Republican rival Donald Trump, according to an interview given by his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, on Tuesday.
Shanahan noted that their independent run risks siphoning votes from Trump supporters, potentially paving the way for Democrats Kamala Harris and Tim Walz to win the November election. "Or we walk away right now and join forces with Donald Trump," she told Impact Theory. Kennedy's willingness to collaborate with leaders from any political party was reaffirmed in a statement he posted on social media.
Kennedy, an environmental advocate and son of the late Robert F. Kennedy, initially sought the Democratic nomination but turned independent after President Joe Biden endorsed Harris. Despite facing challenges in qualifying for ballots, Kennedy's support stands at 4% in recent polls. A leaked July phone call showed Trump's interest in Kennedy's healthcare policies, highlighting the potential for a unity party.
