West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday clarified that her recent remarks were not directed against student protests. She emphasized her support for the student movement, calling it genuine.
In a post on X, Banerjee said, "I detect a malicious disinformation campaign in some media outlets. I never threatened the students or their movements. Their movement is genuine." She also hit out at the BJP, accusing them of threatening democracy and creating anarchy in the state.
Banerjee clarified that her use of the phrase "phonsh kara" was a reference to a quote from Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa Deva. She condemned the BJP's 12-hour 'Bengal Bandh,' calling it an attempt to defame Bengal. Addressing the issue, she accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using his party to incite violence over the Kolkata woman doctor's rape and murder incident.
