Trump Pledges IVF Funding and Tax Breaks for New Parents
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced plans to require government or insurance coverage for IVF fertility treatments if elected. He also proposed tax deductions for major newborn expenses, aiming to gain support from women and suburban voters. Trump's positions on reproductive rights face criticism amid tight election races.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump declared on Thursday that if elected, his administration would mandate that either the government or insurance companies cover the cost of IVF fertility treatments. This announcement was likely aimed at attracting women and suburban voters. 'We want to produce babies in this country, right?' Trump stated during a town hall event in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Earlier the same day in Michigan, Trump promised that his administration would push for tax deductions for 'major newborn expenses.' Opinion polls indicate that Trump has been losing ground with female voters since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic candidate for the upcoming November election. A Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that Harris led Trump among women voters by 49% to 36%.
Harris has frequently criticized Trump's stance on abortion, portraying Republicans as a threat to women's reproductive rights. This includes access to birth control, abortion medication, and fertility treatments. Trump's position, following his appointment of three justices who helped overturn constitutional abortion protections, has left the matter to individual states.
