Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday emphasized that the party's chief ministerial pick in Haryana will be named only after the elections, adhering to the tradition where elected MLAs make the decision.
With the Haryana Assembly polls approaching, Congress introduced seven promises, such as providing a legal guarantee for MSP and conducting a caste survey, at a press briefing hosted at the AICC headquarters.
The guarantees were revealed in the presence of key Congress leaders including Kharge, Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and senior observers Ashok Gehlot, Ajay Maken, and Partap Singh Bajwa.
Addressing inquiries about the party's chief ministerial candidate, Kharge insisted that Congress has always followed the practice of letting elected MLAs choose the CM, a principle that remains unchanged.
Potential CM candidates being considered include Bhupinder Hooda and his son Deepender, along with MPs Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala.
Polling for the 90-member Haryana Assembly is scheduled for October 5, with vote counting set for October 8.
