Congress to Abstain from MCD Standing Committee Election

In a significant political move, the Congress party has decided to abstain from voting in the upcoming MCD Standing Committee election, according to Delhi chief Devender Yadav.

The election will fill the vacancy created by BJP councillor Kamaljeet Sehrawat's election to the Lok Sabha. The 18-member MCD Standing Committee is MCD's highest decision-making body.

Currently, the AAP holds 124 of the 250 seats in the MCD, followed by the BJP with 115 seats and the Congress with nine. AAP has fielded Nirmala Kumari while the BJP has nominated Sunder Singh for the vacant position.
