Trump's Endorsement Boosts Johnson in Crucial House Speaker Race

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has endorsed House Speaker Mike Johnson, lending crucial support ahead of Johnson's reelection bid. Johnson faces challenges within his party due to a narrow Republican majority and past resistance to his legislation. Trump's backing aims to solidify Republican unity before the key vote.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has reinforced his support for House Speaker Mike Johnson, who is up for reelection this week in a contest pivotal to maintaining Republican control in the House of Representatives.

The relationship between Johnson and Trump could prove instrumental, as the House votes for its speaker following the inauguration of the new Congress.

Previously, 34 Republicans opposed Johnson’s stopgap funding bill, suggesting internal party disputes might influence his reelection chances, despite Trump's resounding endorsement.
