Judge Temporarily Halts Trump's Ban on Funding for Youth Gender Transitions
A federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order against former President Trump's directive ending federal support for gender transition treatments for minors. The order follows a lawsuit from families and advocacy groups, emphasizing the immediate impact on access to essential gender-affirming care.
A federal judge has halted an order from former President Donald Trump that sought to stop government funding for gender transitions in minors, according to a recent ruling Thursday.
Judge Brendan Hurson of Maryland, appointed by President Joe Biden, decided in favor of the transgender teens' families and advocacy organizations, such as the ACLU, which challenged the order.
The blocked directive would have halted federal aid for gender-affirming healthcare, including puberty blockers and surgeries, which led to immediate setbacks in treatment access for many affected families.
