DMK Protests Pushback Against NEP and 'Uncivilised' Remarks
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MPs, led by Kanimozhi, protested in Parliament against the National Education Policy and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's 'uncivilised' remarks about Tamil Nadu. The DMK opposes the three-language formula in NEP, viewing it as an imposition of Hindi. Congress also criticized the policy's rollout.

Members of Parliament from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by MP Kanimozhi, staged a protest in the Indian Parliament on Tuesday. Their demonstration centered on objections to the National Education Policy (NEP), particularly its three-language framework, and comments by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan regarding Tamil Nadu's opposition.
Kanimozhi accused the central government of compromising the future of Tamil Nadu's children by withholding funds unless the state accepts the NEP's three-language mandate. She called Pradhan's comments, which labeled the Tamil people as 'uncivilised,' undemocratic and demanded an apology from the Union Minister.
Congress MP K Suresh joined the criticism, alleging that the central government's push for the NEP is an attempt to saffronise the education system, made without consulting state administrations or educational experts. He underscored that Tamil Nadu has consistently resisted the three-language policy.
