Political Tensions Rise as Far-Right Candidate Barred from Romanian Election
Cornelia Borta and fellow supporters protest after far-right politician Calin Georgescu is barred from Romania's presidential election. Despite winning the first round of the previous election, Georgescu was disqualified by the Constitutional Court due to alleged Russian interference. Supporters call for street protests, urging Romanians to demand change.
Cornelia Borta, a staunch supporter of far-right politician Calin Georgescu, sees no alternative for Romania's presidency. Her appeal comes as Georgescu, previously successful in the first round of last year's election, is barred from the upcoming polls due to allegations of Russian interference.
Borta traveled from Neamt to Bucharest to protest outside Romania's top court on Tuesday. The court backed a decision to exclude Georgescu, despite his popularity among a certain voter base. Borta argues that only Georgescu can bring the peace Romanians desire, condemning alleged actions to eliminate him from the race without evidence.
Pensioner Constantin Matache echoed her sentiments, accusing authorities of manipulating politics. With just days left to find a candidate, Georgescu's supporters, undeterred, demand an alternative to the status quo, as small protests break out in Bucharest.
